Doing an exchange program in Australia is a significant step in anyone's life. But doing a higher education course Down Under, whether it's an undergraduate degree or a master's degree, is even more challenging and certainly very rewarding.

To help people get started on this journey, we've listed seven important points for having an even more complete and enriching experience:

1- International recognition

Australia's educational institutions are renowned for the quality and excellence of their teaching, which opens doors to the job market around the world. According to the 2018 edition of QS World University Rankings®37 Australian universities are among the best in the world, seven are in the world's top 100 and another 10 are in the top 300!

2 - Easy entry

Contrary to what many people believe, entering a university in Australia is simple. Students just need to prove their proficiency in English through a test such as IELTS, and present proof of completion of high school for those who intend to study for an undergraduate degree, or a bachelor's degree for those who intend to study for a master's degree.

3 - Practical and independent format

Australian higher education is very different from Brazil. Generally, institutions offer two types of classes: Lectures, which are lectures for a large number of students where the teacher discusses a subject without interruptions, and tutorials, which are classes in small groups with teachers other than lectures to develop what has been learned.

The subjects are focused on the development of projects and research, and students are encouraged to take more responsibility for their own learning and to be more independent of the teacher.

4 - Selected courses for international students

Not all courses offered by Australian institutions are available to foreigners. Before choosing a course, you need to check that it has been registered with immigration. Courses marked "Domestic Students" do not accept international students.

5 - Diploma and faster knowledge

The path to your desired degree may be shorter than you think. Exchange students can eliminate subjects in their bachelor's and master's degrees in Australia if they present a transcript from a compatible course taken in Brazil.

In addition, there are bachelor's degree programs that allow students to complete a course with two specializations in just three years. For example, the Bachelor of Business, which guarantees training in marketing in addition to business.

6 - Fewer work restrictions

Students on English, vocational and degree courses can work up to 40 hours every two weeks. This rule does not apply to those studying for a Master's by research or a Doctorate. Both the student and the student's partner can work without time restrictions.

7 - Work visa after the end of the course

An undergraduate or master's degree student with at least two years of study may apply for the "Post-Study Work Visa"The visa entitles you to work in the country without restrictions for two, three or even four years, depending on the educational qualification obtained.
