One of the most incredible things about traveling is getting to know the local customs. Without a doubt, the culture, landscapes, language and all that are fascinating and make the experience even more enriching. When you go to a different country, this all becomes even clearer, doesn't it?

In Australia, of course, this is no different. The country of the kangaroos has its own peculiar customs. That's why Good Day Education is going to show you the 6 main ones you need to know before your exchange. Are you ready?

  1. Bring your own drink in some restaurants

It's true! In Australia you are allowed to enter some places with your own drink. As well as saving money on the final bill, you're guaranteed to have your favorite drink.

Be careful though, some restaurants may not allow it or charge an extra fee of between two and three dollars, the so-called corkage fee. Always find out before you eat!

  1. Keyless doors on the inside

If you forget your keys inside your house in Australia, you could be in trouble! It's no joke, keys in the country are only used to open from the outside, as the inside has a lever used to open and close.

So be careful, okay? It's all a matter of habit, and you'll soon get used to it!

  1. Free water consumption in commercial establishments

House water is a tradition here in Brazil when requested by the customer, but in the country of the kangaroos it's even more common. The water comes from the tap, but has specific treatments for consumption.

  1. Faster baths

Water scarcity is an extremely important issue in Australia. So if you're used to taking long showers, that's not allowed there!

This is enforced even more radically if people share houses, as is the case with exchange students. The rule is clear: you can't shower for more than five minutes!

  1. Dry law

As in other countries, in Australia it is forbidden to consume alcoholic beverages on the streets and breaking this law carries fines. However, in some cities it is tolerable to drink on some beaches and in parks, but always discreetly.

  1. Barbecues on beaches and in parks

Speaking of beaches and parks, did you know that Australians take advantage of the heat to have a nice barbecue in these places? It's common to get friends and family together and enjoy a nice barbecue in the open.

And did you know any of these customs? Well, before you make your dream of going on an exchange to Australia come true, talk to Good Day Education, which carries out educational planning for exchange students from all over the world. Come to Australia and count on expert guidance to map out the best paths for your visa and your professional and student career in the land of the Kangaroos.
