When it comes to studying abroad or immigration, choosing a destination can be a difficult task. Among the favorite destinations for Brazilians are Canada and Australia. So, if you're still in doubt as to which of these countries is the best option for you, this article will help you decide. After all, by evaluating some key factors, such as climate and even mobility, the decision becomes much easier. Let's go?

What's the weather like in Canada?

Do you like snow? If so, the Canadian winter might suit you just fine. Canada is a country located at the tip of North America and during the winter temperatures can reach minus 30 degrees Celsius. But remember, during the cold seasons the day in the country tends to get dark around 4pm, which limits many activities.

But as a country that is already used to low temperatures, Canada has a whole structure that can help you live in a cold climate. But not everything is so cold, some Canadian provinces can reach around 33 degrees during the summer.

What's the weather like in Australia?

As you all know, Australia's climate is all about beaches, warmth and sunshine! Located in Oceania, the country has a similar climate to Brazil, after all both countries are located in the southern hemisphere, so this can make it easier for you to adapt.

In Australia, the northern parts of the country have a more tropical climate, while the southern parts of the country have a more temperate climate. But don't think that Australia will be sunny all year round, the country has well-defined seasons and also low winter temperatures, which can vary from 4 to 20 degrees.

Study and Work in Canada

To be able to do the study and work in CanadaIn addition, students must be enrolled in a higher education course, i.e. it is not possible to work while only enrolled in a language course. In addition, according to the rules of the Canadian government, students can work 20 hours a week during the school term and around 40 hours during vacations.

The cost of studying in Canada can be attractive, with an undergraduate degree in the country costing between $5,000 and $20,000 Canadian dollars per year. It all depends on whether you choose a public or private college. In general, private educational institutions offer more attractive prices.

Study and Work in Australia

In Australia, this type of exchange program works in a different way: it is possible to work while enrolled in English courses as well as vocational courses, known as VETs. And with the new rules approved by the Australian government after the pandemicInternational students will be able to work around 40 hours a week during term time and also during vacations, for courses longer than 14 weeks.

But according to new decree issued by the Australian governmentfrom June 2023, the number of hours that international students can work will be limited again. There is no decision yet on what the new hours limit will be.

According to the Study in Australia website, the cost of studying in Australia can vary depending on the course chosen by the student. English courses can cost from AUD $4,000, while VETs can cost from AUD $4,000. The cost of higher education in Australia can be around AUD $22,000 per year.

Cost of living: Australia vs. Canada

According to Australia's Department of Immigration and CitizenshipThe average cost of living in Australia ranges from AU$340 to AU$490 per week, with a minimum wage of AUD 19.84 per hour. In Canada, the average varies from CAD$300 to CAD$400 per week, with a minimum wage of around CAD$13 dollars, according to Statistics Canada. However, the price may vary depending on the province you choose.

But it's important to remember that lifestyle and type of housing can mean that the cost of living varies in both countries.

Lifestyle: Australia vs. Canada

The cultural aspect and how each country carries out its routine is one of the most important factors to weigh up when choosing your destination. Canada, despite having a large number of immigrants, follows a "workaholic", in other words, Canadians have a culture that tends to value work more than leisure on certain occasions. But make no mistake, the country offers countless options for leisure and activities, especially outdoors.

In Australia, on the other hand, the lifestyle is very similar to Brazil. The country has a more  "surfer lifestyle"It's a lifestyle in which the population in general values a higher quality of life, managing to maintain a good balance between leisure and work. But don't get hung up on stereotypes, the lifestyle will always depend on each person's choice.
