The period for Tax Return, which corresponds to Brazil's income tax, starts at July 1st and ends October 31st. If you have had tax deducted from any income received during the tax year, which begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th of the following year, you need to file a declaration, unless you are within exceptions.

The easiest and quickest way to do this is online. To get started, you need to have an account on the myGovlinked to the ATOthe agency responsible for Australia's finances and tax system.

If you haven't already, there are a few steps to follow:

  • Have your TFN number handy and an identity document, such as your birth certificate, passport or citizenship certificate;
  • Create a myGov account;
  • Log in to myGov, go to the Services page and connect to the ATO.
  • Now you're ready to use the ATO's online services and start your tax return using the myTax.

In order to file your tax return and find out your income, the company you work for or have worked for must provide you with a Payment Summary Statement, a document that shows all your income in a tax year in summary form.

As in Brazil, it is also possible to deduct expenses from tax. Travel and vehicle costs, clothes bought for professional use, home office expenses and studies are just some of the items that can be deducted. list of deductions.

Once you have submitted your tax return, you will be issued with an assessment notice. This tells you if you are entitled to a refund or if you have a tax debt to pay.

The evaluation notice will be sent to the inbox of your myGov account, and an e-mail or SMS will inform you when it arrives.

When will I receive my refund?

If you've done everything online, refunds are usually processed within two weeks. Refunds made manually take 10 weeks. There is no way to speed up this process, even if you contact the agency.

You can check the progress of your tax return by logging on to the myGov website. This service provides you with the real-time status and outcome of your return.
