Studying in Australia is a significant step in anyone’s life. But choosing a higher education course in Down Under – graduation or a master’s degree – is even more challenging and, certainly, very rewarding.

To help people start this journey, we’ve listed seven important points to have a complete and enriching experience:

1- International recognition

Australian educational institutions are recognized for the quality and excellence of their teaching. Because of that, students will find open doors to the labor market worldwide. According to the 2018 edition of QS World University Rankings®, 37 Australian universities are among the best in the world, seven are in the top 100 worldwide and another 10 are in the top 300!

2 – Easy admission

Starting a university in Australia is simple. The student must only prove proficiency in the English language by doing a test, such as IELTS, and present proof of completion of high school for those who intend to pursue an undergraduate degree, or of a bachelor’s degree for those who intend to pursue a master’s degree.

3 – Practical and independent format

Generally, institutions offer two types of classes: Lectures, where the teacher talks about a subject without interruption, and tutorials, which are classes in small groups with different teachers from the lectures to develop what was learned.

The subjects are focused on the development of projects and research, and students are encouraged to have more responsibility for their own learning and to be more independent from the teacher.

4 – Selected courses for international students

Not all courses offered by Australian institutions are available to foreigners. Before choosing which course to study, it is necessary to check if it is registered with immigration. Courses marked as “Domestic Students” do not accept international students.

5 – Save time

The path to the desired diploma may be shorter than imagined. The international student is able to eliminate subjects in the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Australia if it presents the school record of a compatible course studied back home.

In addition, there are bachelor’s programs that allow the student to finish a course with two specializations in just three years. For example, the Bachelor of Business, which provides training in the field of marketing in addition to business.

6 – Work more

English, vocational and undergraduate students can work up to 40 hours every two weeks. For those who are pursuing a master’s degree in research (Master by research) or Doctorate, this rule does not apply. The student and his or her partner can work without time restrictions.

7 – Work visa after the end of the course

The undergraduate or master’s student with at least two years duration can apply after the end of the course for the “Post-Study Work Visa”, since it gives the right to work in the country without restrictions for two, three or even four years, depending on the educational qualification obtained.
